Worst Song on YouTube Week 2: The “Him? Really?” Edition

In Music, Random/Humor on February 19, 2012 at 12:34 pm

This week is a bit different because the song isn’t an abomination, but the artist is just so perplexing.

Here is your worst song of the Week:

If you don’t know who Lou Williams is, you are in the overwhelming majority.  Lou Williams is Jrue Holiday’s backup on the 3-seed  Philadelphia 76ers coached by Doug Collins.  I intentionally threw some “fat” on this sentence to add to the questions:

1. Who’s Lou Williams still?

2. Who’s Jrue Holiday?

3. Philly is a 3-seed?  Do they still have Iverson?

4. Doug Collins?  Who?

Nevertheless, Lou Williams is pretty unknown.  He’s a decent backup, but I wonder who gave him the chance to lay down tracks.  I mean, how often does the following conversation happen:

“Alright, we need to get a big name.  Who we got?”

“Well, Lou Williams is available.”

“Lock it down.  Immediately.  We’ve gotta have him.”

It just doesn’t happen.  Jeremy Lin would be a better get (even though I’m absolutely certain he has no rap talent.  Then again, I’ll never question Jeremy Lin.  Ever).

Enjoy Lou Williams, readers.  This may be the only time you’ll see him in person.

Things Mary (And What You Might Have) Learned from Smeagol/Gollum

Before we begin, I think it is appropriate to warn you that if you aren’t familiar with this most famous CG quasi-gremlin (played by Andy Serkis), you should probably find something else to read. You should also find a cliff, because if you don’t know the Lord of the Rings, you don’t know life. Read the rest of this entry »

The Worst Song on YouTube: Week 1

In Music on February 13, 2012 at 11:56 pm

by:  Andy Kane and Eric Buenning

So this is how this competition is going to work.  Andy and I (and all of you, if you want to help) will scour YouTube and try to find truly awful songs.  Once we decide on the creme de la crap for that week, the song and a brief description trying to encapsulate all that is awful about it will be posted here.  At the end of the month, semester, and year (if it lasts that long), a tournament will be held with voting polls open to decide what song cements itself at the bottom of all “music”. Why do I (and most of America) Love Jeremy Lin?

It’s rare when you find $20 on the sidewalk (and also super awesome). It is even more rare to witness somebody go from irrelevant to 90+ % of America to must-see TV in one week.  Well, luckily for the New York Knicks, the NBA, and fans alike, we are now witnessing one of those stories.  Jeremy Lin, in the course of this last week, has gone from being as important as your 2nd cousins’ cousins to scratching at the bottom of Tim Tebow’s level of fandom.  My roommate, who first got a glimpse of the Lin-sanity last night, asked me why I liked Lin so very much.  I was unable to answer that question.  Why do I like Jeremy Lin?  Why is he so mesmerizing?  Let’s try to come to an answer. Why I Love John Green (And Why You Should Too!)

This summer a friend of mine told me about something cool that she loved called vlogbrothers – two brothers, John and Hank Green, that a few years ago decided to cut off all textual based communications for one year and communicate through face to face means at least once a day via a YouTube channel.  Read the rest of this entry »

Holy schnikes, I am terribly sorry for the super-duper long gap in this contest.  I promise to not let that happen again.  I also promise to not waste any more time on exposition and will get straight to the contest!  Back to Division 1, Round 2! Read the rest of this entry »
